Walking
There are many hiking routes in the county. Maps and associated route descriptions are available . For those interested in shorter walks the forests and lakes surrounding Riddarhyttan support a wealth of flora and fauna. Elk, bear, lynx and wolf can all be viewed in their natural habitats. If you would like to view an elk or beaver up close, then you can join one of the elk- or beaver safaris which are organised in the forest of Skinnskatteberg. In summer and autumn a wide variety of berries and mushrooms may be found and collected.

Swimming
The parish of Skinnskatteberg contains 244 lakes, offering ample opportunity for swimming and diving. Within easy reach of the B&B Basil Broers there are lakes around which you may relax, sunbathe, swim and dive.
Fishing
Summer and winter offer ample opportunity to go fishing in the lakes around Riddarhyttan. Pike, bass and trout can be caught here.
Canoeing and cycling
The Strömholmscanal is 110 kilometres long, and it crosses 14 lakes. Twenty six sluices help to conquer a height difference of 100 metres. In former days the canal was used to transport iron ore; now you can rent canoes and bicycles at several locations alongside the canal. The city of Fagersta, 30 kilometres distance from Riddarhyttan, is one such place.

Skiing and langlauf
Riddarhyttan has its own ski slope. In the winter, when there is plenty of snow, you can descend 200 metres along two routes. Great for the beginning skier! There are langlauf tracks around the ski slope. You can warm up at the local grill spots, and prepare your own hamburger. Bigger ski slopes are about a 2 hour drive away from Riddarhyttan.
